Rain (90th Anniversary)

Joan Crawford, Walter Huston. Crawford stars as willful prostitute Sadie Thompson on a boat to Samoa that’s forced to stop at Pago Pago while a Cholera outbreak is investigated. Fellow passengers include a missionary and his wife, who take the stop as an opportunity to chastise Sadie for her lifestyle and try to convert her. Though the project is initially unsuccessful, an encounter with a lovesick Marine sergeant and an emotional argument lead to a religious epiphany in the young woman. This fabulous pre-code drama combines great performances with an exciting investigation into religion, morality and the idea of redemption in modern society.
