Dr. Paul Steiner is a scientist experimenting with laser teleporting matter from one location to another. He and his lab partner successfully move inanimate objects, while living organisms seemed to die. Another scientist, Dr. Patricia Hill, attempts to fix the issue with the laser. Thinking she has succeeded, and not knowing the laser has been tampered with by another scientist, Steiner attempts to teleport himself. He fails miserably, converting himself into a murderous monster. With half his body disfigured, he is now able to kill with just a single touch, and finds he needs a supply of electricity to survive.
