No matter the genre, the lovely Loretta Young was really something to behold on the silver screen. Here the enchanting actress stands opposite some amazing leading men to demonstrate her comedic chops with this trio of rom-coms that have not only have stood the test of time, but still hold the magic to make people laugh at the silliest of circumstances. First up is an early Frank Capra classic, Platinum Blonde (Robert Williams, Jean Harlow. 1931/89 min), in which Young is a reporter who falls in love with another reporter who then marries a socialite only to realize he made a mistake and wants out. In The Doctor Takes a Wife (Ray Milland. 1940/88 min), Young plays an author who’s just written a bestseller about how spinsters can get along just fine without men, until a series of misunderstandings has the media believing she’s actually married to a university professor. Last up is A Night to Remember (Brian Aherne. 1942/92 min), in which a young newlywed rents a basement apartment hoping to provide just the right gloomy setting for her mystery writer husband to write his next book—that is, until they find a dead body and the perfect setting becomes a real-life mystery.
