As they journeyed to Edo, the two fiercely loyal retainers (Chiezō Kataoka, Daisuke Katō) of a minor samurai (Eijirō Kataoka) had to stay mindful of their master's weakness for strong drink. Their travels brought them into contact with a succession of individuals whose lives would fatefully and dramatically intersect... and ensured that tragedy would be their ultimate destination.
