While on an Alpine vacation, stuffy Oxford professor Francis Ashby (Michael Palin) finds his cloistered existence challenged when he makes the fortuitous─and enjoyable─acquaintance of American Caroline Ward (Connie Booth) and her teenaged ward Elinor (Trini Alvarado).
