The Spectre of Hope brings together art critic John Berger, best known for his television series and book, Ways of Seeing, and Brazilian economist turned photographer Sebastipo Salgado, who has been awarded virtually every major photography prize in Europe and the United States. Sitting at the kitchen table of Berger's home in the Swiss Alps, they look at the photographs in Salgado's book Migrations. Their intimate conversation, intercut with photographs from Migrations, combines a discussion of Salgado's work with a critique of globalization, and a wide-ranging investigation of photography and the power of the image.
