A riveting journey through Afghanistan's past history and present reality; a road picture set in a war zone. With an inside view rarely open to Westerners, we follow the beautiful, charismatic star Nelofer Pazira through exotic rural Afghanistan, as she searches for a lost childhood friend. In barren villages we meet noble, helpful inhabitants holding up bravely under poverty, war and US occupation. We walk among friendly locals; dangerous warlords; corrupt officials and wealthy businessmen. Can any of them help Nelofer find her missing friend? We experience, first hand, how most people live and relate to each other in Afghanistan. Among other historical points, we see America's effect on the country; residue effects of the Soviets; the overt subjugation of women, and the rise and end-result of the Taliban. The new Afghanistan appears to be a violated land, where the wounds of constant war are apparent. In the shadow of past memories, our star, Nelofer, rediscovers her lost self. She has returned home.
