An Evening With O. Henry
The genius of one of America’s most celebrated short-story authors is clearly on display in these two adaptations which feature his rich characters struggling to live the American dream and, of course, O. Henry’s trademark twist endings. The famous story of The Gift of the Magi (Kiah Gordon, Rosemary DeLeonardis. 1980/20 min.) follows a young penniless couple who make great sacrifices in order to give each other a single Christmas present. Then a family fights to overcome poverty and pneumonia in turn-of-the-century Greenwich Village in The Last Leaf (Kim Jackson. 2001/20 min.). 3 DVDs. Color/NR.
