Weaving with Spanish Threads
- Genre: Special Interest-Documentary
- Release Date: 10/10/2012
Francisco Perez, the 98-year old star of our one-hour documentary about Spanish immigrants, is full of stories...of leaving Spain in as a small child, of diving for coins in the clear waters off of Maui and sliding down the water chute in the sugar cane fields, of long hours of work but coming home to his warm immigrant community, of moving to California.... One of thousands of Spaniards contracted to work on Hawaii's sugar cane fields and pineapple plantations, he along with many others eventually settled permanently in northern California where word was that there was plenty of land and plenty of water. Perez' story is enlivened by on-location footage shot in Spain, Hawaii and California, and complemented by interviews with descendants of immigrants.
